This year we are honored to have;

Elaine Evans: Dr. Elaine Evans is a University of Minnesota Extension Educator and researcher working on pollinator education and research relating to bee conservation. She completed her M.S. and Ph.D. in Entomology at the University of Minnesota. She has authored several books: “Befriending Bumble Bees: A Guide to Raising Local Bumble Bees” and “Managing Alternative Pollinators”. Her work helps to monitor pollinators, improve the impact of pollinator habitat, raise awareness of the importance of pollinators, and provide action steps for pollinator conservation.

Tom Seely: Dr. Thomas D. Seeley is the Horace White Professor Emeritus in Biology at Cornell University. He is based in the Department of Neurobiology and Behavior, where he teaches courses on animal behavior and does research on the behavior, social life, and ecology of honey bees.  His work is summarized in six books: Honeybee Ecology (1985), The Wisdom of the Hive (1995), Honeybee Democracy (2010) Following the Wild Bees (2016), The Lives of Bees (2019), and Piping Hot Bees and Boisterous Buzz-Runners (2024)

Ferhat Ozturk: Dr. Ferhat Ozturk is an assistant professor of practice at the University of Texas San Antonio and specializes in the medicinal use of honey with a strong Ph.D. background in gene therapy, molecular and cellular biology, bioinformatics, and biochemistry research. He has taken this knowledge and applied it to the unique biological and chemical makeup of different mono-floral honey from around the world allowing him to unlock the hidden knowledge of age-old wisdom regarding the healing benefits of honey. His current research is helping to identify U.S.-based honey sources that contain high bioactivity levels and medicinal properties that can not only compete with but outperform those of current medical grade honeys.

Beginning Beekeeping 101 hosted by the Northeastern Minnesota Beekeepers Association. Great for anyone interested in becoming a beekeeper.
