Twig Honey Wins First “Border Battle”
One of our local beekeepers entered a sample of his honey in the first annual “Border Battle” honey-tasting contest at the Joint state meetings of the Minnesota and Wisconsin Honey Producers Associations. After a day of sampling dozens of honeys in identical numbered bottles, attendees were asked to vote for their favorite while not knowing which state it came from. At the end of the day, the samples from Wisconsin and Minnesota which received the most votes were selected. The next day these two samples were renumbered and placed out for a head-to-head comparison. Again attendees were asked to vote for their favorite. At the end of the conference, the honey most voters chose was named “Border Battle Champion”. The honey selected was a sample entered by one of our members, Jeff Charnes. It was collected by the bees kept in his two apiaries in Twig Minnesota. It was a good day for northern honey!
