At our meeting in January, the club expressed a desire to begin a project to rear our own local queens. The idea was to provide a source of queens raised locally, from stock that has survived a northern Minnesota winter. Initially we would not be able to supply queens for spring splits, but our goal would be to build a supply of local queens available to our members for summer splits, or if one of their hives suddenly went queen-less.

We appreciate the interest you have demonstrated by visiting this forum. Some of you have tried successfully to rear your own queens. Some of you have tried with limited success. Some of you may have read up on the subject, but never took the next step. Others may just want to follow along to see if they could do it.

It really doesn't matter where you are in this journey - we are all here to learn together. The purpose of this forum is for all of us to have a place to meet outside of public scrutiny. We promise to not be critical. We will all try to help each other and strengthen our group by becoming more self sufficient.

If you have not yet done so, please register to become a member of this group. Registering will give you the ability to reply to postings, post new topics and connect with other members of the group. We will lightly moderate this group to prevent detractors from taking us astray. Once you register, there will be a short delay before your privileges are enabled. We have found that the default controls for this board were set too restrictive. They have now been loosened up. Basically, if you are a registered user, you can now post messages and replies immediately. You can also indicate that you would like an email sent to you when a news comment is posted. I hope this will make the process a bit more interactive as we get in to our busy season. If you notice any inappropriate posts, please let me know.
